HAVS is a widespread disease in many occupations. Prolonged and regular exposure to vibration can affect an employees health. HAV exposoure can arise from the use of hand-held power tools, hand-guided machinery and hand-fed machines.

Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) & Vibration White Finger (VWF) are potentially serious conditions affecting the hands & fingers. Damage may be caused to blood vessels, nerves, muscles and joints through the use of vibratory tools.

The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 requires all employees to have health surveillance in place where employees are being put at risk. Health surveillance must be provided for employees who are exposed above the action value (2.5m/s A (8)) and for employees who are sensitive to vibration to minimise the risk of progression of established symptoms.

Health surveillance should be carried out by competent persons and who have received accredited training. A.B. Health Ltd can provide staff who have completed the Faculty of Medicine approved course.
